Ballad of the Spanish Cavalier

The Ballad of the Spanish Cavalier is based on a 19th Century American Folk Song. This composition tells the story of a young cavalier. Opening with all the bravado we expect from a young man in love while the percussion feature represents the delicate dance of the couple. The melancholy interlude which continues represents the sorrowful revelation that the young cavalier may not return. Following this section, we bid our young cavalier farewell as he marches to the battlefield with the bravado and courage we saw in the beginning. Great for concerts, this selection introduces latin rhythms to the young wind band.
